There are a few blood knot tools on the market, like the Dennison, Tru Blood, and EZ Tie blood knot tool. However, one common and key complaint runs through all their reviews. It's hard to use outside because those tools sink.
Most of those other blood knot tools are metal. Metal doesn't work well outside because it's heavy, and when it's dropped in water, it sinks to the bottom—no more easy blood knots for the remainder of your fishing trip.
The Angler's Ace blood knot tool fixes this common problem. It's made of lightweight expanded PVC plastic that can float and is waterproof. Perfect for outdoor use during your fishing expedition. If it's dropped in the water, it's easily retrievable.
It also comes in some bright colors, making it easy to spot in the water. Could you use a blood knot tool like this? Hop on over to our shop and take a look!
The Angler’s Ace blood knot tool was specifically designed for people with limited use of their hands.
Charlie, the founder, and inventor of Angler’s Ace, saw a friend losing dexterity in his hands. The cold Montana weather compounded the loss. His hands would ache, and the cold made him lose feeling in his fingers. When fishing, he would fumble with the line and be unable to make blood knots.
Eventually, Charlie came up with the Angler’s Ace blood knot tool. A flat credit card sized tool that made it easy to tie blood knots cold or warm. It also made it easier and faster to tie tapered leaders. It was an easy solution for his friend.
Now, he’s heard from many other customers that tying a blood knot with limited function has become so much easier and faster. The blood knot tool has saved them hours of frustration.

The Anglers Ace blood knot tool was explicitly designed by someone who fly fishes. Charlie wanted something easy and portable and couldn’t find what he was looking for online. So being a tinkerer and inventor, he made a device he wanted to use.
He took some of the common complaints of other blood knot tools and improved them by making a brand-new easy-to-use blood knot tool. Common complaints of other tools include portability. Many people have to use other tools sitting at a table or desk.
The other tools were made of metal and were quickly lost if taken outside because they were heavy or too small and sank into the water. Or it was just too small to use when actually outside fishing.
The Angler’s Ace blood knot tool is a credit card size and can fit in your fishing vest pocket. If you drop it in the water while fishing, it floats. If you drop it in the grass or on the shore, it’s easy to spot because of its bright colors. It’s easy to use outside and doesn’t require you to set it on a desk.
If you are not convinced, check out some photos to see for yourself. Or look at the directions page for more insight into how it works.

Beach and Surf Fishing Seminar
A few years ago, when visiting friends in southern California, we took a trip to the beach. We brought fishing gear with us not expecting to do much of it, but hoped for the chance. Well, we got the chance and spent most of the afternoon surf fishing.
Honestly, I didn’t think it would be as fun as fly fishing Montana rivers, but I was too quick to judge. The best part of surf fishing is that it’s easy and it’s fun for the whole family. While fishing we found sand crabs, watched other guys reel in odd looking fish (and squid), and my son got to see all of it. It was a great learning experience for both of us.
Afterwards, I was hooked. Every time we were at or near a beach I had to keep trying this new way to fish. I even spent a few days surf fishing in Hawaii, learning from locals about all the fish along the Maui coast.
If you are interested in learning about surf fishing the California Department of Fish and Wildlife is holding a virtual event on April 16th all about it. It’s geared towards beginners and will feature two anglers/environmental scientists that will teach about catching halibut and other species in the surf.

There are two common knots used in fly fishing to make tapered leaders. One is the blood knot and the other is the surgeon. Each knot has its own advantages.
The Advantages of the Blood Knot
There are two reasons fly fishers use a blood knot for tapered leaders.
The one disadvantage for some is that the blood knot can be difficult to tie, especially in cold conditions or with the loss of dexterity in the fingers. Loss of dexterity is one of the main reasons we invented the blood knot tool.
The Advantages of the Surgeon’s Knot
The surgeon’s knot is often used in place of a blood knot for tapered leaders. The advantage of using the surgeon’s knot is that for many it’s easier to tie.
Although the surgeon knot does well in place of the blood knot there are few reasons we think it’s inferior to use.
Honestly, either knot works for its intended purpose. We just think the blood knot has more advantages, plus our tool makes blood knots easier to tie. So there would be no reason not to use the blood knot.
If you need help with tying your blood knot let the Angler’s Ace Blood Knot tool help you. Check out our store for different colors or our instructions page to see how it works.
A blood knot is a knot that joins two lines together.
The Blood Knot’s Purpose
The purpose of a blood knot is to keep the line straight and not have any kinks in the fishing line. The other purpose of a blood knot is to make the knot strong. This is done by how many loops are on each side.
Animated knots have a great tutorial on how to tie a blood knot by hand.
Although it looks easy to do with rope, blood knots can become cumbersome when your fingers are cold or with the loss of dexterity.
How a Blood Knot is Used in Fly Fishing
Blood knots are used in fly fishing because they allow you to make tapered leaders, which are leaders made out of graduated lengths of monofilament. The blood knot helps keep the line straight with no kinks.
The Anglers Ace Blood Knot Tool makes it easy for fly fishers to tie blood knots in any condition. It also makes the process faster.
See our instructions here.
